More banner advertising ?

Okay - I know what site I’m on -

I know the look of the usual advertising banners at the top of this site.

Now is it REALLY neccessary to put another advertising banner between the initial post in each thread and the first reply in each thread in the Model Railroad forums ?

When can we look forward to advertisements between each reply to a thread. Please don’t insult your loyal forum users. We know why we’re here - and who owns the site. I have a subscription - and it has enough advertisements.

Bad start to 2007 on-line.

I do not see them as I use AdBlock in Firefox, gets rid of most ads.

And another forum I am on does have ads after every 9 post in a topic. They are gone too [:D]

I don’t know how Kalmbach sells the banner ads on this web site, but it is not uncommon to get fees for click thru. In otherwords the advertiser pays for actual response to their web site. Since this is forum is free to us and is no doubt partially funded by the good graces of the advertisers, it is probably to apease them that this has been done. Still a darned good forum.

I think the banner that he is refering to is the MR one, not a non-Kalmbach ad so the click thru thing does not make any sense.

And yes, it is a good forum I agree

What banner ads? I don’t see (nor do I want)any. Probably my Norton Antivirus and Windows XP blockers both doing their job. Thanks!

I don’t mind MRR-related banner ads. If it’s from our manufacturers or online hoobby shops, I have no problem with that at all. But once I see that annoying “Calculate New Payment” dancing silhouette guy on this forum, I’m out of here.

The above service announcement was made for those that missed it.

[:D]

I guess they just started that today. It’s annoying since it lengthens the page, but Maxthon as well as Firefox zap it. Oh well, what do you want for free?

It was an Atlas ad the first time I came to this thread.

Wait a darn minute… this is a model railroading forum?

[:-^]

You know, of all the things to be concerned about, this ranks right up there with whether the refrigerator light really does turn off when you shut the door.

Free forum doesn’t mean it doesn’t cost anything to run it. As long as it’s model RR related ads, it doesn’t bother me one bit.

JEESH!! People, really… come on. MR has to make money somehow, since this forum is FREE. These banners and the few clicks they get likely give Bergie and colleagues ammo to says that this forum builds business. If you don’t like them, then ignore. Other options include blocking or LEAVE the forum. I mean really guys, complaining about this one is just lame.

Brian

Get used to it I am sorry to say

Advertising all over the place is the way of the future on the internet

(not to mention the world in general I was in DFW airport and the bathroom was full of ads)

Curt,

You’ve got to stop reading those bathroom walls.

Seems to me that the banner moved from the top of the page (where it was before) to the space between the poster and the replyees. I noticed it yesterday, but it didn’t really faze me one way or the other.

Tom

To be honest I never even noticed it.

It would be handy if they kept a list somewhere easily accessible. Most of the sites that adverstise are ones I visit from time to time - even Atlas which doesn’t make anything in my scale. Hint to Atlas: time to look at S scale.

Enjoy

Paul

It’s gotta be related to the browser and anti-virus software you’re using – I don’t get any advertising on any web site because I have Norton Internet Security’s anti-spam and anti-advertising turned on.

But when you’re using a free forum provided at a significant expense on the part of Kalmbach, if you don’t like what you see you can always go elsewhere. Kalmbach is not going to be offended if you don’t use their free forum, especially when you start using it to criticize what they are providing as a free service.

Agreed. I wouldn’t mind any of the modeling or railroad-related ads, but that dancing guy drives me nuts. i can’t click out fast enough.
