I bought a Walthers 130’ N scale turntable that along with a Firebox models conversion kit makes a very nice automated small HO turntable. The only problem is the controller mount is relatively large and doesn’t seen to have any good way to be mounted to the fascia. The instructions talk about cutting a hole and inserting the electronics thru the hole and attaching the back plastic with the screws provided but that seems pretty clunky. It looks like the square hole will have to be pretty precise in size. For those of you that have this turntable, how did you attach it to your fascia? I am thinking about two sided tape, but will entertain other ideas. Thanks - Nevin
Well my motto is if it can’t be fixed with duct tape then it can’t be fixed, but in this case I went with a little less of a Redneck approach and just used hook n loop tape aka Velcro. I read the same thing in the instructions for my HO T/T and have seen a few with the hole through the fascia mount but figured ah not for me. This way if the operator feels the need he can just give it a tug and I have about 6’ of cable connecting the controller to the turntable. Although I am considering operating it via the throttle with a stationary decoder as well. Why not complicate the heck out of the whole layout.
Hi from Belgium,
May be out of subject from this post but for the owner of Walthers Turntable read this:
I have acquired ,but still in the custom hands, an NYRS control system. I will use it for an CMR Nscale 135 feet turntable.
It’s quiet expensive but they made a conversion kit to adapt their system to the new line of HO and N scale Walthers turntable.
Because they use a step by step motor control, the position of the bridge are put whith an incredible precision.

Nevin,
I own an HO scale Walthers 130’ turntable. I bought a pair of 3"x3" L-shaped brackets that are mounted against the fascia on one leg of the bracket and the controller sits on top of the other leg of the bracket. The controller is dark gray or black, I cannot exactly recall, so I wrapped a piece of black electrical tape around the controller and the legs of the brackets to secure the controller in place. Works perfectly and it is easy to look down and see the controller buttons and lights.

I simply cut a slot in my 1x fascia, a little snug, then pushed the box in and used a couple of set screws to hold it in place. Works so far…

It’s not the prettiest thing in the world, but it’s functional…

Not sure what you’re considering as “pretty precise in size,” but if the N scale controller is the same as the one that comes with the HO turntable, it’s not difficult. I have the HO scale one and mounted the control box in the 1/8 inch masonite control panel by cutting a hole just big enough to let the back part of the box drop in and the top lip catch on the face of the masonite. The wiring was connected after the box was inserted and it just sits in the hole.
