The first time I heard this song, I was reading a Trains Magazine article on Peabody’s coal train, and have always associated the two things since. I don’t know if it puts a different spin on the song’s message … to us railfans.
In a sense Calypso Island was worse, if not named quite so iconically.
Funny thing is that I never recognized John Prine wrote the song until now. I suppose better late than never.
Mr. Prine had an “upbeat irreverence” few people in his genre could match; we’ll miss him.

Yes, John Prine will be missed, one of the greatest poets and song writers of our time.
And yes, a style and delivery that carried the message of his songs perfectly.
I have been a fan pretty much from the very beginning of his career.
