MR Product Review Video: Bachmann’s Sound Value DDA40X Centennial diesel locomotive

This model sounds amazing. I love the double 645 engine start up in the locomotive. Now if only my layout were bigger so I could run this thing!

The DCC sound stuff is really neat, but it is still a tiny speaker. It sounds like you are hearing a train through a telephone. I think there needs to be a next generation of this technology that sends to lower frequency of the engine and directs that to larger speakers under the layout. Since low frequency sound isn’t directional It would still sound like the engine the generating the noise, but then it would sound and feel like the real thing. On a large layout it would be hard since you would need multiple speakers and it would need to get “handed” off between sections… but on a 4x8 or shelf you could really make the layout sound come to life… It would be pretty easy to splice in a wireless transmitter that rain on the track voltage and sent the signal to cheap receiver and sub… oh if only I had a layout and some $…

I would do a truck mounted front coupler complete with new MU cables and plow for more realism.
