Hi all,
I’ve been searching for a track plan and I finally came across one that may work. It is called the Appalachian Central and it has everything I want in a layout. My problem is that I found this plan in “Project Railroads You Can Build” at a hobby shop and I didn’t want to pay $15 for the book when I only need one page. I know this plan was also published in the January and February 2000 issue of MR but I really don’t feel like paying full price for one page (I know, I’m really, really cheap.) So, is there anyway I can get this track plan without buying a book or magazine? Any help is appreciated.
bring a pad and sketch it out. you only need the basic shape then write down the specific. turmout #, curve radii etc. depending on how complicated it is you might just wanna try to find a used copy on ebay. 20$ spent now might end up saving on hundreds if it means getting the lumber bill righ the first time or buying the correct turnout or track component
CSXFan, I can email you the trackplan as I have a scanned copy.
Why didn’t I think of that! It would be fairly simple to sketch it. I would buy the book but I’m not 100% sure that I will use this plan. I only had about 2 minutes to look at it before my LHS shut off the lights and told me to get out so they could close. It will be at least 2 weeks before I can go back and want to decide on a plan sooner than that. I would like to avoid the hassle of ordering off the internet and waiting a week for it to arrive. Does anyone have a pic of the plan that they could e-mail to me?
I guess we were typing it the same time. Thanks! I appreciate it! I’ll send you my address as soon as I can.
I got the e-mail. Thats just what I’m looking for, Thanks again!
Hmmmm, using MR’s forum to openly speak about scanning and emailing their materials illegally is, well, interesting.[:O]
Nothing illegal about it.
Just like I got a few used MR’s from other local modelers who dont have any use for the magazines anymore.
If I understand correctly, MR historically allows a reader the use of the material for “Personal use” only such as articles, drawings and what not.
If this IS illegal then Bergie will have to come down from the Mount with fire and thunder very soon to inform us all of our transgressions.
It is illegal to scan (or photocopy) and distribute information from the magazine.
Why would “personal use” be ok? Being a hobby, 99.5% of MR readers are using the magazine for “personal use”.
Here’s a link to a thread where Terry Thompson (Editor of MR) says it’s illegal to scan and distribute articles:

These days, with the availability of so much information over the internet, people seem to think it’s ok to share anything.
You can also go to your public library, as most libraries have MR in their collection, and make copies of those track plans for your personal use.

Well, that’s probably the only time we’ll ever see him.
