MTH DCS Remote Control System

Hi guys,

I recently bought a new DCS remote ctrl. system. My oh my was I very excited. When I got it, I hooked it up as per MTH instructions. At first, I was able to add an MTH engine. After a few rounds in my track, the remote started acting up by not recognizing the command buttons. So, what I did was, I deleted the engine, reset the remote and TIU to factory setting. After doing so, I can’t understand why I can’t add the same engine anymore and cannot add any MTH PS2 trains. The remote kept saying NO ENGINES TO ADD. I called MTH, they walked me through the trouble shooting to no avail. I returned the DCS system to where I bought it and luckily I got a full refund. So… I thought to myself that it could have just been like a lemon. So, I ordered another one thru a different dealer from a different state. Again, I was excited but the exact same CRAP happened. The train ran for a few rounds and started doing the same thing. Has anybody had problems with this system. I don’t know if i am just a double sh&8%$!t magnet or MTH is not as good as a lot of people say.

Can you explain a little bit about how the track is wired?

For TESTING purposes, take a straight section of track and connect the DCS system to that, then try adding the engines, ONE AT A TIME. (Assuming you are using PS2 engines.)

If on your layout you have multiple power drops through out the layout, make sure that the center rail is isolated between the power drops. Simply stated the DCS would go something like this.±> / ← + ->/<-+, if you do not have the isolation, the signal would look like this ±><- + -><-+ causing conflicts in signals. (The + symbol represents where the power drop is, the / symbol represents isolated section)

Thanks for the response. I did exactly that and I did it again with an MTH technician. Still, nothing happened. Placed a few MTH PS2.0 engines and still it was the same. Well…Lionel Legacy is really sounding better now.
