NOW IT STILL DON’T RUN .CHARGED ON TRACK ONLY GET A DISTORED SOUND WHEN TURN OFF POWER.THAT’S THE ONLY SOUND I GET!!TRIED A NEW ALKALINE
BATTERY SAME RESULT’S.PLEASE HELP!!WITH POWER ON IT ONLY BUZZ’S
You don;t need an alkaline, buy yourself a fresh Nimh battery, be sure it is 8.4 volts and at least 160mAh. Charge it before installing and then install it.
Then, turn the throttle up just above zero untill the engine has made starting sounds and idles. Then turn voltage back to zero, and slowly up again. I assume it’s a proto 1 unit, and those take a bit time to react on the direction. Also pressing the direction switch for about a second should be enough. Simply touching the direction switch will not make the engine run.
Alkaline batteries are of no use in these units and a nicad battery (which is originally in the train) is broken after 5 years, no matter if you used it or not. I’m sure deputy has another (even better) option for the battery. Do a search for protosounds, he’s mentionned it before.
Same thing happened to me with a Premier 2-8-4 steam locomotive.I sent it to an MTH service center and they said the sound board had to be replaced.Ended up costing me 250.00.But seek more advice before sending your engine away.
The battery still needs to be charged. After charging the battery, try the factory reset 18. If that does not help, you may need a new sound chip (about $10.00)
