I recently purchased a MTH steam locomotive, it runs great on my DCC (NEC) layout but no sound. Is there something I need to do to get the sound to work? Or did I buy a defective engine?
I only have one MTH loco and run it occasionally. I have to get out the function chart ro refresh my memory as their functions are a little different than what I’m used to. F3 is a ‘startup/shutdown’ function. F6 toggles through master sound levels.

Hello All,
I use an NCE wireless ProCab system.
Have you tried Function 8 (Mute)?
This function will not only mute the sound but also “un-mute” (activate) the sound.
Hope this helps.
F8 in MTH’s Proto3 decoders F8 is ‘Smoke on-off’.
A decoder reset is to enter ‘55’ in CV 55.

Thanks, reset to CV55 to 55 did the trick
No, at least on their first and second generation P3’s. Only P3’s after 2017-2018 AFAIK finally allowed you to customize keys because you could switch the loco to DCC mode.
