How about stored uncovered, not uncover ?
did you mean to say “under cover” or “uncovered” ?
Instead of a cosmetic restoration, it sure would be nice to see a Northern Pacific steam locomotive restored to operating condition - especially such a unique specimen as a Prairie type. Not many of those in existence in this day and age!
Lake Superior Railroad Museum listed at goodsearch.com.
Perhaps someone from the area will clue us in, but I suspect the article meant to say stored under cover, such as under a roof but not in a fully enclosed building.
Interesting that this engine has the valve gear inside the wheels, underneath the boiler. Note that the steam chests are canted inwards at the top. Most engine and maintenance crews hated that sort of thing, since it made lubricating and serviceing the valve gear more difficult.
And take another look at that photo. Am I crazy, or is there a wisp of some coming from the smokestack? Either somebody is really good with photoshop, or somebody at the museum had some real fun with a smoke generator.
