Can anyone tell me how to turn off the horn / bell functions with a Bachmann dcc controller…thanks.
Regards…Dave.
Not wanting to sound like a smart a** here, but if you don’t want to hear the bell or the horn, don’t press the buttons cooresponding to their control… [:-^]
Now with that said, I’m sure there’s more to what you are asking than that. Are you trying to silence a second locomotive in a consist or something along those lines? A little more information would help.
Jeff
Hi Jeff, Yes, it`s to silence a second locomotive in a consist…thanks.
Dave.
I don’t think you can do that with a Bachmann DCC system because it requires the programming of CVs that are out of reach of the Bachmann system. I recently did it to a Broadway Limited Hudson and it required turning down the whistle and bell volume CVs, which were in the range of 162 to 164. Look in the documentation for whatever sound system you have for the CV numbers of the bell and horn volume, which need to be set to zero on the second locomotive if your decoder supports the setting of individual volumes. Then check your Bachmann documentation to see if it can program CVs within that range. Here again, some sound decoders don’t allow the changing of individual sound volumes but only the overall volume.
Yup, you will need to program CV’s to do this, and the Bachmann system cannot do this. Or you need a DCC system that does more than simple consisting by assigning the same address to each loco in the consist. The default command station consisting in my Zephyr already only sends the function commands to just the lead loco with no additional programming - when I doubleheaded the new PCm T-1’s, only the whistle in the lead unit sounds when pressing F2. That’s independent of several CV settings that ESU has in the Loksound decoder to manage function control when consisting. Those CVs only come into play when using decoder assisted consisting with CV19.

Jeff,
Very astute of you.
Dave,
Charles and Randy are right. You can NOT adjust any CVs with the Bachmann E-Z Command. (Simplicity has it’s limitations.)
As you know, in order to consist 2 or more locomotives with the Bachmann, you have to assign them to the same address. If you press F1 or F2 for the bell or whistle, ALL the locomoitves will respond to that command.
Dave, what you could do is to manually turn down the volume on all the locomotives behind the lead locomotive. Although it’s sorta inconvenient, and it depends if your locomoitve has an external knob to turn down it down, it would take care of the issue.
Tom
Thanks for all your advice, the only way way round this is to upgrade the system.
Regrettably, yes. It is the bane of so many modelers who take initially reasonable steps to help them to ‘grow’ in the hobby, but it usually means dollars cast aside e’re long.
Although some would disagree, that is why I make an assiduous effort to dissuade folks from purchasing the EZ-Command system, because its critical limitation will quickly become a major detractor from growth in operating DCC locomotives.
