My basic track plan

Hey guys and gals,

I have my basic track plan ready. I don’t have a pic. of it but will some time today. Just so you guys know when you see it, it is not very elaborate because there is not much room. It has no “turn arounds” because of limited space. If i want to turn around i will simply stop the train, drive it around the track onto the roundhouse, turn the roundhouse to the appropriate spot, stop it, Drive the engine back onto the mainline, back it up to the rolling stock, hook it up and continue. I’m pretty excited to start. I want to add a second mainline (double mainline). But not sure if I will because of A, space and B, money for diffrent radius track. I don’t have the count of how much track will be needed but will soon have that count.

I would also like to thank milw. road for the creation of my track plan he help … thanks!

Ok, here is what i looked like when i scaned it in,

Then i changed it a little bit on art…

any thoughts?

Ok everything is good except that big ol’ yard. I mean your just starting so your not going to need that many tracks…It’ll save you money.

How about three or four for freight

One for Caboose storing

One for Passenger car storage

Glad I could help!

What scale are you working in?

Download the Atlas RTS software and plan with that. I think you are loosing something in the scale of the drawing.

Is the software free, David?

i’m not David but yes the Atlas software is free. sadly, if you have windows vista as a system, it won’t work.

good luck on the plan!

How do you show how big your plywood is…like can I insert that I have a 6x8 board and it will put the measurements on there?

sadly i have windows vista so i can’t help you there

RTS won’t work on my comp. and mlwk. thats a good idea i think i’ll add a RIP track also

Hey Jake, are we looking at DCC?

I’m a bit confused on the DCC thing… what is it exactly? ( i used to no like 2 yrs. ago but since have forgotton)

You see i lost interest in the hobby for about a yr. …last yr. lol and have forgotton lots of things since then.

[#ditto] In your drawing the minimum radius appears to be way smaller than 18", and some of the turnouts look like #3s. You will only get frustrated if you try to squeeze that much track into a 4x5. I drew up your plan in Cadrail so you could see what it would look like if it were scaled correctly. All curves are 18" and the turnouts are Atlas Snap Switches. The turntable is also made by Atlas. The dotted line is a tunnel.
