My Christmas Lights Train won't move! Bought new

Help please! I just got a Lionel Christmas Lights O gauge train for my work’s larger train display, but it went around the track a couple times and then stopped. I turned everything off and and placed the train on a new area of the track. The light turns on but the train won’t move at all. I just hear a buzzing noise when I try to make it go forward. Any advice. This is a brand new train.

Do you think that you could post a video? It usually doesn’t work directly through the site, but you can do an unlisted Youtube video and link it here.

Welcome aboard Kristine_Madras!

You said there’s a larger display at work. Can you tell us what kind of power supply is connected to the track? For example a Lionel CW-80, a Lionel ZW or something else? It could help a lot.

PS I moved this over to the Classic Toy Trains Discussion forum where you should get answers faster.

All sorts of features ought to be accessible via the LionChief app using Bluetooth, as well as from the controller that came with the set.

Everything is on a MTH Electric Trains transformer. Model No. Z1000. Input: 120V 60 Hz 160w
Output: 14 AC 80w or 18AC 100w

Thank you, I downloaded it but unfortunately it’s not responding to anything from the app.

Turn the locomotive over and look at the electrical wiring to the wheels and center roller. These can get loose and break off.

I can’t make it out clearly in the video, but the main rod doesn’t look right. Is everything properly aligned on both sides?

It looks like the rear most drive wheel is rotated ever so slightly clockwise, (look at the counterweights) and that would cause the rods to bind up. I would remove the bolts holing the connecting rods on to the rear driver, the loco is driven off the rear drive wheels. If one wheel has slipped on the axle, disconnecting the rods should allow the front 3 drive wheels to spin freely, and the loco can be tested to see if that is the issue. If it was, it should run. I do not know what size the bolts are, but if you can’t find a socket or nut driver the correct size, a pair of needle nose pliers on the flat sides should work (only use pliers as a last resort)

Thanks!
Okay, I agree with Woke_Hoagland and Yellow_Tank_Car. The side rods are likely binding somehow, and that’s preventing the motor from turning. The buzzing sound is the motor trying to run. Also, Yellow_Tank_Car, if I recall correctly the bolts are 1/4".
By the way, that is a beautiful display!

Thank you everyone! It was a rod issue! a inner bolt was hitting the rod and preventing it from moving. It is fixed and back on the track! You all are wonderful! Thank you!
