Your layout is going to be huge! Nice job so far.

Lookin good electro. You do relize that when I go to town to get masking tape and they tell me it is on factory back order you are the one I am going to blame. I guess that is masking tape, how much have you used and how much more do you figure it will take? Keep us posted. Mike
This is a wonderful project and an inspiration to the rest of us who like big scenery and huge unussual bridges. At the rate you are going, you will be done before my canyon. I love the updates. Thanks.
Yep, looks pretty “royal” to me![8D]
Beautiful, EL. Your work is always so meticulous. Is that all cardboard shell? Give us some details!
Thanks for all the kind words about my work, appreciated.
Yes it’s all cardboard strips glued with hotglue (very hot [xx(]) and covered with masking tape. I will cover it with Joe Fugate’s vermiculite mix (plaster, cement, vermiculite) in a 10 mm thick layer. Then I will use rock molds from Bragdon Enterprises. The rock molds are here any day now, maybe this week.
Here are my current track plan but it needs a lot of work because there are things I want to incorporate:
The first thing I want to do is to make space for Rio Grande’s Salt Lake City depot, Grant Tower and the wye so I can turn my Rio Grande Zephyr in the same way as the prototype. Here are som pictures of the Grant Tower area. Please give me some ideas how to do it. And feel free to change the trackplan in any way.

I really love the picture called D&RGW 135 on 7th West. That’s the feel I’m searching for.
I’ll second that, great progress El and great pics to show it, I just finished the plastercloth and tape stage on my similar sized area, 8 rolls of tape an 7 of plastercloth.
Keep up the progress pics I’m enjoying them immensly.
Have fun & be safe
Karl.
I’m confused. I thought the pictures you were posting were of the flat part of the Royal Gorge right before the hanging bridge. But this plan shows the Hanging Bridge in a big S-curve. Where on this layout plan is the picture being shown?
Don’t be confused my friend. The plan shows the hanging bridge in a S-curve, but I will move the hanging bridge to another location on the plan. The plan needs some updates.
Electrolove:
You’re modeling my favorite railroad and it looks really good. I recently saw some great photos of the Royal Gorge and partial shots of the Hanging Bridge on www.trainorders.com. This would be a fun area to model.
On a much, much smaller size layout I’m modeling Pueblo to Canon City and Pueblo to LaJunta, so I can run both Rio Grande and Santa Fe. My dream would be to extend my table-top layout around the outside walls taking taking it on up to at least Minturn. And maybe a little branch narrow gage line.
But unless I’ve got a long, lost rich uncle somewhere this will only remain a dream!
Keep us posted on your progress, with lots of pics if possible.
