My new layout space

I’m in train heaven. This is my new layout space. The only thing that is missing is a trackplan. I’m modelling D&RGW from Denver to Salt Lake City over the Moffat tunnel, and also over the Royal Gorge in HO scale. Feel free to suggest whatever you think is good.

This is some posts about the same idea.

And some pictures

You lucky dog!!! You don’t even have to do anything to the interior. Looks like you’ve got plenty of light and power too. I’m jealous!

Yes, but are you sure Z scale is the right way to go here??

Z scale??? NO NO NO!!! It’s HO scale.

I am puzzled about building BOTH Moffat Tunnel and Royal Gorge routes, I would wonder if fitting two tourtes would keep you from doing justice of either. But that is just my prejudiced impression. You may have thought of a bunch of things I have not considered.

I have several times worked up designs on the track that ran over the top of the great divide BEFORE the Moffat Tunnel was completed. Not that I planned actually to build any of them myself. I drew up one a year or so ago when someone was asking what to do with a space. Here is the plan…OOPS, no I deleted them from railimages so I cannot display or link to them here unless I re-upload them…

I usually advocate “around the walls” design with operators in the middle, but if there is absolutely enough space, having the operators go around the layout eliminates duckunder problems.

Can you please re-upload them so I can look at them, very interesting… The reason I want both routes is because I want to have Dotsero on my layout, like this:

The Royal Gorge with the hanging bridge is a must so I must have the Royal Gorge route. And I also want to have the branchline from Bond to Craig (if there is space for that) so I must have the Moffat tunnel route as well.

Since you seem to have what you want to do, it would seem that the next step would be to draw aout a schematic like in the book, Track Planning for Realistic operation.

Once that is done, it’s a matter of fitting as much of the schematic into the space as you can without overloading it.

Is this the one you mean, third edition?

You suck!!

Just kidding, actually i’m jealous… its hard having a layout in an attic with sloped roof, when you’re 6’10"

I know how it feels. When I started this hobby I had a very small room. But I decided to do something about it, and it was not easy. It took me a while to come up with a solution. But now I’m here and I’m very happy.

6’ 10" ??? Wow, I’m 6"3" & I’ll stop complaining about my somewhat duck under. My name is Kevin too. lol

Just a little “low scale” humor.

Yes, I real derailment [B)] [:D]

If only, Congratulations Send more pics.

Hi electrolove
Nice space don’t forget to paint the walls behind the layout a nice shade of sky blue.
regards John

Track Planning for Realistic Operation by John Amrstrong. Yep. That’s the one. Read it, have it next to you whenever you are thinking RR, put it under your pillow and sleep on it.

I agree, I don’t think they have railroads on Mars (yet).[;)]

Seriously, the big room is really nice. The space to the lower left is a little chopped up, but can still be very effective. What obstructions are down there? Furnace? Water heater? Are they in that little room in the lower right?

You know, if you did do Z scale you could probably go coast to coast![;)]

Congrats on the new space!

I don’t like the red color either, but I’m not allowed to paint the walls [:D] But I will have a backdrop with a nice blue sky…
