My search for HO overton passenger cars

I have been searching in vain for any GOOD QUALITY HO RTR overton cars. I do not have any particular road name in mind. I just want some for my mogul to pull around.

Any suggestions?

MDC Roundhouse, now part of Athearn, makes RTR 34’ and 50’ Overton coaches, as well as matching baggage cars, combines, and business cars.

The 50 foot cars are Overland, 1880 to 1930 era. The 34 foot Overton have been discontinued according to the Roundhouse site. Someone in this forum was just talking about this era. Search this forum for 1880 passenger cars?

You might have to search the 'Net or go to eBay.

The 34’ Overton coaches are very hard to come by - I was able to order a PRR baggage car, combine, and business car from an online retailer about 5 years ago, but just recently was able to find an unassembeled coach on eBay.

Bruce, I believe one of the two LHS’s near me (Nanaimo and Campbell R.), has several. If you really have a hankering, I can inquire and get back to you with price and make.

I didn’t realize that they were discontinued. I had bought the Lima and Silverton sets many years ago.

I do still see them in some of the smaller out of the way shops from time to time .

I too was not aware the Overton cars had been discontinued…shame’ Also glad i have a set, will be on the lookout at our local swap meets in the future.

while they may have been discontinued if they are not at your LHS, there are 18 listings for Overtons on eBay with recent closing prices of as little as 2.50 for “new in box” and no bidders

To find Overton passenger cars is like hunting for the Holy Grail.

Now OVERLAND passenger cars are currently in production by Roundhouse.

Why do I keep thinking of the old Piker Series from Walthers?

The $2.50 is for 5 body shells which does not include roofs - this is 14 listings.

Otherwise they range from $.99 + $6.00 shipping to $4.99 NIB + unknown shipping to $24.95 + $7.00 shipping for a set of 4. There are also some store ones for 9-13 dollars.

I suppose you could buy the set of four and then a set of body shells with a different road name. Assuming you are the only bidder for both you’re looking at about $40.

A set of 4 Overlands RTR will be $69.98 when they come out in July - per the Horizon site.

Enjoy

Model Die Casting (Roundhouse) may be your only hope of finding assembled, RTR Overton passenger cars.

After MDC was merged with Athearn, production has shifted to China and the Roundhouse brand is all RTR now.

Check Athearn’s web site for availability at http://www.athearn.com

I have called all three LHS’s on the Island that I have dealt with, and they are all out, saying they are virtually impossible to get…so there ya go. I know for a fact that Leisure Time in Nanaimo had four about seven months ago. Even though my surname is Overton, they were not in keeping with my modeling theme.

The pricing i was referring to was that of those in the “completed” file

pricing of those still in play is irrellevant until the auction closes

Also the coach and combine were also made in die cast metal by Laconia, binkley, MeEW and ulrich (I think); and in brass by Westside (Samhongsa)

Ok. But the closed auctions aren’t much use if you’re looking to buy.

i use the values from the closed auctions to make sure i’m not bidding too much for the live ones
