Here is a few engines I did my best on. They ARE ones that I did. I also threw in a few shot of my spray booth that I had almost no money on. It even has lights and vents right out the window in the back. You will also see my piles of FSM kits and engines that need put together.
nice awesome looking spray booth wish i had one, im still airbrushing on a table in the garage
Nice work
I got Lowe’s to cut the wood to the exact size I needed. I bought a cheap light and a small fan and used dryer hose and a vent. I think I had under $60.00 in it total. It works great, and it’s big. Not like the small ones you buy for a hefty price. If you need some better shots of it let me know? I can take beter detail shots so you see how simple it is.
Is your fan motor air-tight? If the paint fumes are flammable and reach your fan motor brushes, the arcing could ignite them…![:O] (Just something to think about…)
BTW Great-looking weathering job on the locos!
Wow, nice. Weathering looks great as well.

really nice weathering , very cool paint booth and great hobby shop … i mean collection of unbuilt kits [:D]
Great job on those locos! I may be wrong, but I think I see some benchtop surface on that workbench! Seriously, looks like you have everything you need to keep busy (love that paint holder you have on the bench). What kind of surface is on the workbench, doesn’t look like plywood.
Dave,
Actually it’s a piece of carpet, LOL.
That looks like a computer fan in there. That’s a good thing because they’re brushless and can’t ignite the paint fumes, so it is safe, KenLarsen.[:D][:D][:D]
Hmm, I may have to build one of them spray booths for myself. Now, I just need an airbrush.[:p]
Great job on the locos!
Paint booth looks great. I’ve been thinking of building myself on of those. Yours has given me a lot of ideas!
I have a clear piece of Plexiglass across the top so I could see into it. I work at a machine shop so it was easy to get. If anyone needs a few pcs. just let me know and I can mail it to ya for free, just pay shipping.
A large card board box, dryer vent pipe and a surplus 6" computer style fan is a cheap way to go also.If you put the fan at the far end of the vent pipe I don’t think you have to worry about fire too much. I don’t know if I could bring myself to weather up a pretty Big Boy like that.Looks great great!

Excellent spraybooth. I am going to have to put that on my list of things to build, looks rather simple and yet very functional. I would have to agree with you on the cost of homemade vs a commercial one, I about p**ped my pants when I saw the price.
Again great idea and great pictures…
One thing to keep in mind when constructing a paint booth is the amount of air that the fan moves. An inadequate fan could still allow solvents to move out of the booth the wrong way.
I do know it is not a computer fan. This fan moves air like you can’t imagine. I have 2 of them on my 500 gallon reef tank. One on each end of the huge hood and they circulate the air very good. I got them from my father when he left PPG, so I know they are not computer fans. Way to big. I will look and se what they are. I just have a furnace filter on the back so it will catrch the spray thats blown against it instead of blowing it around the sides.
I would and well as others probably would like to see a parts list or where you got some of the parts, (ie the fan).
That is the great thing about this forum and others, were else can we get timely tips and advice?
5/8" WOOD
DOORS…(2) 18 5/8 X 18 5/8
SIDES…(2) 20 X 20
TOP…(1) 36 X 20
BACK…(1) 36 1/8 X 20
BOTTOM…(1) 36 X 18 7/8
I got the store to cut all of these for me at no charge, that way I knew they would be square. I used a dryer vent (like the ones with a flap on it so it would close when the fan was not running to keep animals from getting in). Some dryer vent hose, and a aluminum flange that fit into a hole I cut in the top. The hardware store sold all of these parts.
i sell these fans of all sizes on eBay under Deeresalesinc name, i do not currenlty have any listed but i know we have them in the warehouse. we also sell all sorts of electronic parts related to model railroading!!, check us out!
Nice weathering. One suggestion: don’t use the FLASH on your camera. That makes it hard to see what the subject really looks like.
