Mylar Tissue Water

I found silver mylar tissue in the gift wrap section at the store. I glued it to pieces of masonite with spray fixative.

I over rippled the first with gloss matte medium. They need to be more subtle.

The second I just gave it a light dusting of Dullcote to tone down the shine and added a few ripply areas to break up the surface.

nice results . if anything i’d say something in between might be the ideal solution . you’re right , the 1st one has too many ripples . but the 2nd one seems too flat , and in some places slightly bumpy , which is odd for water . i think you’re getting very close [:)]

The bumps are probably dirt, I am just messing around with water, looking for a better technique. If I were doing it for real I would have been more careful gluing the mylar down. The bottom piece of masonite has a slight bow in it also.

Flat water:

Just a thought

Still, I think both look very credible! Good work, Harold.

There is a thread dealing with cheap trackside stuff, and someone has mentioned piles of sand near where steamers are sitting. Would you care to have some input with that idea, Harold?
