I picked up this HO scale car, as is, a number of years ago and forgot about it.
The sides, roof seem to be one metal casting. Looking at the car from the bottom, the metal ends seem to be glued/soldered to the sides. The frame is wood. No decals. It appears to be a “Sierra” type car. Do not know who the manufacturer is. I would like to find end railings and steps to fit it. It would be nice to remove the frame and put glass in the windows.
Not sure I could get the frame loose without damaging it.
Any ideas? Thanks.
Yes, I know the model is incomplete. Here is what I found out.
The metal versions of the Sierra coach and combine were done by
Binkley during the 1960’s and 1970’s. The sides and roof are one
casting and the ends slide up into slots and screw into the roof.
Bob Cook of BC Models purchased the molds/dies/whatevers for these
cars. They were listed in his catalog. And now all that stuff is
owned by Bitter Creek Models.
I will contact Bitter Creek and see what they can provide for me to finish the model. The model is heavy, 5.18 oz.
Rich; It’s a model of the Sierra Railroad #5 used on the Angeles Branch between Jamestown and Angeles Camp. Angeles Branch had steep grades, switchbacks and sharp curves. After the Angeles Branch was abandoned the Sierra used it as a waycar. The original kit was by Binkley Models. MDC later put out a kit of the car.
Yes, I am familiar with the Sierra cars. I am in contact with Jeff of Bitter Creek Models who bought the BC Models line. BC Models bought the Sierra Binkley cars. I am quite sure Jeff can help me as he is going to start selling the line again that BC Models use to sell.
