N-Scale CMX Track Cleaning Car

I have a N-Scale CMX Track Cleaning Car. In the instruction manual, page 3 under (B)(3) SOLVENT HANDLING AND FILLING: it says to draw 3CC solvent in syringe and transfer slowly through fill port, use from 4CC to 9CC.

  1. Which amount is it?

Instruction Manual, page 4 (B)(6) it states: Adjust drip rate to about 10-15 drops pr minute or less. On the N-Scale version of this care there is an inverted “v” shapped spring between the drip hole and the pad. This prevents the user from getting a clean drop as the fluid runs down the spring.

I’ll try to help You…but I am in HO-scale and have two CMX cars and it is easier to see the drip…My suggestion to You would be to remove the skid pad and spring…hopefully without loosing it and put some Alcohol in it and place it on a paper towel, then adjust the drip rate to Your desire, watching it drip on the paper towel. Once satisfied, mark the thumb knob on top, with a marker and right down how many turns of the knob it took to reach Your drip rate…As far as the amount goes to fill…You could put any amount of liquid in the tank You want, just leave a little room for venting. It all depends on how large Your layout is and how long it it will run before depleting whats in the tank. I use lacquer thinner always in mine and works great for Me, but I have a rather large layout/double track mainline and always push the cleaning car, rather than pull it. That way it hits the dust/dirt build up before engine or rail cars do and have the wheels spread the gunk around.

A point to remember also, is to loosen the fill knob slightly when adjusting drip rate and leave it that way when cleaning track, without loosening the fill knob, You will not get a accurate drip rate, if at all.
