I am confused about the radius of a curve. I see that Atlas makes several N scale curves in code 55. 20”, 21.5”, 30.6”, 71”. Does this mean a 180 degree turn would be 40” for a 20” degree curve or would it simply be 20”?
Thanks,
Bill

The diameter of a curve is 2r, meaning two times the radius. So your 20" radius curve needs 40" for a full 180 degree turn.
And if you’re planning a layout, take into account that the stated radius is measured to the center of the track, meaning that a 20 in. rad. curve will actually need slightly more than 40 in(more like 41 1/2 in) to fit. Also be aware that Atlas makes “flextrack”,so you can actually design your own radiuses, should you need to.
