N scale help

Guys,

I’m looking to do some scale conversions for a scratchbuild project. What are the millimeters to foot ratio for N scale? Ex. X MILLIMETERS = Y FEET

THANKS!

----Rob

As you know, the ratio for N scale is 1:160.

So 1 mm scales up to 160mm.

Google has a handy calculator, just enter something like “160mm to feet”, and it will tell you 0.5249 feet, which is 6.3 inches.

EDIT:

Personally, it drives me crazy to cross English and metric systems, and scale at the same time. I know it is done all the time, but… Anyway, I like that 10 “real” inches scales to 1/16 of an inch. Kind a of useful number that you can use to get a feel for almost anything. And 10 feet is 3/4 inch.

my n scale ruler says that 1.9mm= 1 n scale foot. i don’t see why you can’t round that off to 2mm per ft. on the other hand 1.9mm is just a little longer than 1/16 of an inch so most of the time i use 1/16" per n scale foot. so unless you’re a nit picking rivet counter you’ll never see the size differance.

Speaking imperially, one inch equals about 13’6" in N scale. We all know that 9mm equals roughly 4’8-1/2" (track gauge) so it’s safe to say that about 20 mm equals about 10’.
