n scale layout plans

Does anyone out there have a plan for 48"x80".I have a space for this size of a layout.I want to use 19" curves whenever possible.I have several Atlas #6 Custom Line turnouts.I also have several pieces of flex track.Something with a passing track and a couple of industrial spurs.I plan on using a scenic divider. As always, any help is welcome.

Several of the custom plans I’ve helpd design are that size or close to that size. You’re welcome to use any you like. Take a look and if you see something you like, help yourself. If you see one that’s close but needs some tweaking to make it right for you just holler and maybe we can make it right for your needs.

Here’s the sight: http://s83.photobucket.com/albums/j319/pcarrell/Track%20Plans/

I found one that I think will work.It is a 30x70 n scale plan.If I can figure a way to use 19" radius and not have the roundhouse, that will be cool.I also like the divider.I have have tried several times to use the Atlas freeware, but I found that to be frustrating.Any help is welcome. Please email me if you can assist, with my request.

Thanks

P.S. I hope this is not asking too much

Is this the one you have in mind?

I can help, no problem.

BTW, the Email link in your profile doesn’t work. It’s OK though, because we can work on it right here and if others see ways of improving it then they can help too!

So, lose the roundhouse, huh? OK

What do you want there instead?

Also, that plan uses 12.5"r curves on the outside and 11.25"r curves on the inside. In order to change to a 19"r curve the 30" width is going to have to change to at least 42". That is going to require you to have access to both of the long sides of the layout.

That plan also has a couple of weak points, one that can’t be fixed. The one that can’t really be fixed is the lack of a reversing section. The turntable allowed you to turn a loco but whole trains cannot be turned unless you do it one car at a time on the turntable or use the giant 0-5-0 switcher from the sky (your hand). The other weak points are that there are only two industries online (that can be fixed) and there is no “outside world” connection (easily addressed).

It’s strong points are that it offers two individual scenes in a very compact space due to the divider in the middle and switching can be done in a very prototypical manner. It also leaves room for many scenic treatments such as urban city modeling, countryside, suburban business park settings, or you could even put the yard area in the mountains.

One other thing to concider, that plan would have more visual interest if it was skewed slightly so that the tracks didn’t follow the tables edge so much.

This plan was a first draft that never was really developed much further. The guy I was working with changed some of the basic perameters and so we started from scratch on a new plan. If I remember right, we came up with this one:

[I

What I would like to do is put maybe,a small stockyard, dairy, farmers co-op,etc.I have some buildings that I need to use.Besides, the “Boss”,wants to see something progressing and I don’t have the budget for a roundhouse.I have 48"in width to use.If I can get this going, with some future expansion options, that would be great.I do like some of the curvy options, though.

Thanks

Alright, give me a bit to play with it and I’ll see what I can come up with.

Size of the plan is now 46.5 x 84 and the mainline minimum radius is 18.75. There are a couple of 15"r on the sidings, but that shouldn’t be a problem.

There is a small town with a feed mill (on the double siding in town) and a stockyard (in tan color) in place of the old yard and roundhouse. I would suggest adding some houses, but you get the idea.

I didn’t change a lot on the other side but I did manage to get two more customers served. You could add more buildings if you wanted, but I just threw trees in there for now.

I also got two tracks (one in each direction) for future expansion. The one closest to the cattle yard has a siding so it can be used as an interchange with another RR and the outside world.

It’s a big improvement over the original, don’t you think?

This looks great. Are the turnouts #6’s or does it matter.I really appreciate all the effort you put in.I thank you very much.

Thanks!

Not a problem!

Turnouts in the top left are #5’s, and in the bottom right they are #7’s. You could swap them all out for a little bit larger sizes if you want as there’s some wiggle room built into the plan.
