I am in the planning stages of an N scale layout and was doing some research on track. I read online that individuals have had issues with Peco Code 55 track and Micro-Trains products. Then I found another articles stating there are no compatibility issues. Has anyone had any major issues with Peco Code 55 and Micro-Trains?
No issues what ever, but I am not a fan of the PECO turnouts. The track is compatible with just about any piece of rolling stock or loco you can throw at it.
I’ve never heard of any issues with Peco code 55 and MT cars. You might be thinking of Atlas code 55. The deep flange of the earlier Kadee / Micro-trains wheelsets would hit the spikes on the Atlas track. The wheelsets would need to be changed to a low-profile version. After that, they would work fine.
Peco code 55 will work with any and all Kadee / MT wheelsets.
My layout is all Peco c55 sae for some track imbeded in pavement. I run all kinds of old deep-flange equipment with no issue. The only thing with Peco turnouts, specifically theexpesially the electrofrogs, is they each need a set of feeders, making their instalation a bit combersome. You also need to take care painting the rails.
As others have noted, the issue is with Atlas Code 55, not PECO Code 55 (which is actually taller rail partially buried in the ties).
The Atlas C55 problems are with older high-profile (“pizza cutter”) wheels that have extra-deep flanges. Current Micro-Trains releases have mid-profile wheels which work fine with either track.
Older M-T wheels can also easily be replaced with mid- or low-profile wheels.
Some older engines also have deep-flanged wheels and may also bump along Atlas C55 track. Replacing these wheels is more difficult.
GP-9, take care painting the rails. How so? I ask bc I’m about to build my first N Scale layout and am planning on using Peco 55 on everything. Also question in turnouts; electro-frogs or not?
I am in the process of building a new layout and use Peco code 55.
No problems with any of my rolling stock, some of which is over 50 years old and all equipped with MT/Kadee trucks and couplers.
Another poster mentioned that Peco code 55 is larger rail imbedded in the ties. It is in fact code 80 rail. Our club freely mixes Peco code 80, 55, and Unitrack to get the track geometry we need
