hey, i’m still workin on my first layout and was wondering how to do the uncouplors, where to buy them and if you can get one’s already on the track, our HO scale (simple easy track for HO, not n) has them, after some sawing, cutting what ever you want to call it… but i can’t imagine doing that for n scale, so if they have one’s already on the track for not a pocket cleaning let me know
I assume you’re using Kadee N scale Magnetmatic couplers. There was a recent post in this forum in which small rare earth magnets were use under each rail in HO scale to act as a magnetic uncoupler. These magnets were very inexpensive, a few cents each, as I recall. I personally have had some success scoring and breaking Kadee N scale uncoupling magnets into shorter useable pieces so you can get two or three for the price of one. This takes some practice to avoid having the very brittle magnets shatter.
when Model Railroader built their N scale “Carolina Central” layout about 10 years ago, they used rare earth magnets from S & L ENTERPRISES for uncouplers, that’s also what I have and they work very good. Also, you can install them either before or after the track is laid.
