I do hope the test results will be published!
From the talk I was hearing in Roanoke this weekend, there’s hope that there might be a weekend of fall excursions with the 611, possibly up to Bluefield. I’d go back down to Roanoke for those.
It would be cool if maybe next year they would do an excursion from Charlotte NC to Spartanburg SC. Or maybe one to Asheville NC now that would be even cooler. And i would like to see the results from the test car.
My “ho” model of THE 611 just moved to the top of my STEAM ENGINE ROOSTER
IN SANDY LAKE,MANITOBA…;CANADA… WOW…EH !
Have the British done similar tests on the “Tornado” or any of their preserved mainline steam? Would be very interesting to see.
Bring ol’ 611 up to PA and run her on ex-Reading trackage from Reading-Allentown, Reading-Harrisburg, and Reading-Philadelphia.
How about 611 on Horseshoe Curve? That would be an awesome trip.
Very disappointing that this year’s excursion schedule for the 611 is so truncated … rather little return for so much investment in restoring her to operation!
I rode in the ‘Wabash’ car on the July 3 trip to Christiansburg. I did notice that a pair of NS pushers were poised to assist if called upon to do so, but even with rain, and presumably slippery rails, the J 611 slowed up, as expected, on Christiansburg Mountain, but kept moving forward unassisted. Heartfelt appreciation to all of the wonderful volunteers, VM of T and NS who had an army of people out and about keeping things safe, while still moving trains on an active mainline, even over a holiday weekend. Ours was a train full of happy and appreciative passengers!
