National Train Day will be Saturday May 11 at several Amtrak stations around the country. The one closest to New York is Philadelphia.

Apparently the MTA/Metro-North did not want their “Parade of Trains” in conjunction with 100th anniversary of Grand Central Terminal to be part of the National Train Day celebration (or maybe there was some sort behind the scenes fallout between Amtrak and the MTA). “Parade of Trains” is on the same weekend as National Train Day but on both Saturday and Sunday. I guess those living in the NY, NJ and PA area could go to Philly on Saturday and then NYC on Sunday for the best of both worlds. With 4 tracks dedicated to the event, I’m curious to see how many historical passenger cars the Grand Central event can attract.
