Natives are blockading a CN line in south-western Ontario in a lands claim dispute. This is over a housing complex that natives claim is on native land. At last report up to 12 trains were waiting to get through.
How does anyone feel about the use of blockading rail lines to bring about attention to native claims[?]
Good thing it’s not CP or they might be facing a hefty fine for tresspassing.

Or maybe get placed in a boxcar with shackles in them. [:D]
This is a tactic that seems to run in cycles and becomes more common from time to time.
Mabee CN needs to bring back the cow catcher.[}:)]
Okay so CN got an injunction ordering natives off the tracks. Does anyone expect them to actually pack up and move to another spot? Because off the standoff a few years ago that resulted in the OPP shooting and killing a native, the OPP are not really pusing back that hard. This sort of puts the pressure on them to push now, so this could get interesting.
A similar event occurred in 1992, when then-new NYSSR Commissar George Pataki tried to collect NYSSR taxes for Cigarettes and Gas sold in Indian territory. The N.A.‘s Blocked the Conrail Chicago line and NS’ former Nickel Plate route as well as I-90, NY 5 and US20. Nobody noticed the rail disruption at all. BUT the blockage of I-90 generated lots of negative publicity for the Commissar. And, it haunts him to this day judging how he bends over backwards to let them put up casinos in an area so poor people are leaving by the hundreds each month! There are enough casinos around here between Niagara Falls (Both USA and Ontario, Canada!) and Salamanca, once an Erie and B&O division point, now…[V] He wants them to build another casino in downtown Buffalo, which has no use for the crime and drug trafficking the casino will add to the current drug induced violence problem we already have.[

I agree. Notch eight, all ahead full. If they are on private property then I guess it isn’t really the railroads fault, right? Right? Okay, maybe not…
