Hi ALL!
Just found this at the botom ofa box full of train stuff. It looks cool…copper or brass motor blck, it has a pan type motor. This is all I have, wondering who made it, how old ? Any guesses out there ??
I suspect that the hunk of metal was epoxied to hold this thing togther !!
Yup, that’s the famous Power-Torque motor. Tyco used it in all their 4 and 6 axle diesels from the early 70’s up to about 1990, and they were also used for the tender driven Chattanooga Choo Choo and the plastic USRA 0-6-0. In 4 axle diesels, the middle wheels were replaced with little hubs to hold the axle and gear in place. I have a couple Tycos with this drive unit, and I did a little review of one of them a few years back:
They can be made into passable runners with tweaking here and there. Over on the Tyco forums, the members like milling out the motor section to fit a better CD drive motor inside.
