Anyone happen to have the part numbers handy for Round House bulkhead and Bachmann Sliver Series coal cars trucks? Need the numbers so I can order some trucks from my LHS. I don’t care if they are the right one as long as they fit.
On a side not, it is a balmy 101 F here is sunny Maryville IL. Darn it is HOT.
You mean you finished rooting around under your layout and behind those car engines you found and couldn’t come up with a couple sets of trucks?
If this is the Round House bulkhead flat you have, http://hoseeker.org/mdcinstructionscars/rh60bulkheadflatcar.jpg , it looks like they did not identify any part numbers on the exploded view drawings. But there is a possibility that Athearn might have made the trucks for MDC anyway. What I’d suggest is that you take one of the trucks from one of the Athearn Blue Box cars you have and see if it fits the bulkhead flat. If it does, the Athearn part number for a pair of Bettendorf trucks w/33 inch wheels is 90400.
I don’t know which Bachmann hopper you have (2-bay, 3-bay, 100 ton, etc), but you could try the Athearn truck on them too. Maybe you’ll get lucky, or will at least be able to make whatever modification to the car you need to do to make them work. If you want roller bearing trucks for the hoppers, Athearn has a Hyatt roller bearing pair with 33 inch wheels, part number 90399, and a Hyatt roller bearing with 36 inch wheels, part number 90401. You can find all of these listed on the Athearn website in the HO parts section.
Don’t bother looking at the Horizon Hobby site. They list Athearn trucks there, but they are all of the Genesis flavor. You don’t even want to know what they want for a pair of them.
Had you considered “Kato” trucks? Just about the best trucks on the market for my money and they have more than 1 style of trucks available.
106 here today in Central Missouri, but thankfully the humidity was only about 90%!!! Get out the “iron lung” and the scuba gear, it’s that time of the year.
Just got our power bill today, it was almost $183.00!!!
Mark, I wish my electric bill was only $186.00, June was $226.00 and July was $286.00.
Maxman, yep that my bulkhead cars. No part numbers, sure glad I did not keep looking for the sheet. I as well am wondering if Athearn Trucks will fit.
My Bachmann Coal Cars are 4 bay type. Far as Athearn trucks, they will not work. I did grab a old Bachmann car from under the bench and was going to use one of it trucks. But, when I was adding Walther axles to them I had to rem them out. My PK 33 inch axles are to sloppy of a fit now.
If we were still using “Ameren UE” like we used to it would probably be like yours or even higher but when we bought this house it is on 3 Rivers Electric Co-op, a much , much cheaper organization. We are heating and cooling approimately 4500 Sq Ft. I’d guess if we were still on Ameren it would have been well “over” $300.
The only good thing I can see anymore about Ameren is getting to watch the coal trains go by about 3 miles away on the old MoPac trackage to St. Louis, and UP runs a lot of coal trains through here.
Way off topic Mark, but my electric company is South West Electric. Anyway back to original question.
The Athearn truck did work on the Round House Bulkhead car. Makes one end sit a little higher than the other but not by much. I have 5 sets coming so I will change the other end. Personally, I think the cars sat to low, so being a little taller is fine with me.
On the Bachmann coal car. I found a cheap Bachmann caboose I never used, still had the plastic wheel set. The opening to mount the truck to the coal car was a little to small. I opened it up some and got it to fit. Installed the metal wheel set from the Bachmann Silver Series, does not roll as freely as it did. Will try a set of PK 2000 later and see if that frees it up some. But, it back on the bench after sitting on my desk now for a year!
Making a dent on the RIP car’s at last! In the last two day’s I have cleared 2 Athenian’s 50 foot box cars, 3 Round House Bulkhead cars and the Bachmann Coal car.
