Need some Info on the Alton & Southern

Recently I recieved an Athearn HO scale Alton&Southern Gp38-2. OF course my layout and most of my collection is set in maryland and I found out that the A&S is still running including this loco (#2001) so it wouldnt fit in on my shortline. So I decided that Im going to build a switching layout set outside of st. loius to run this loco on. So could anyone provide me with some info on what the A&S typically pulls. I also want to know of anylocations where the A&S interchanged (if it did, figured it would since C&NW partially owned it) with the C&NW becuase I bought a C&NW SD60 for my shortline to be used for dual purpose (1 for actual use on the line. 2. To run as a C&NW train for fun now and then). Would espically be glad if anyone had photos of the above [:D]

Here is a vid of it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d7BwhYaeEEI

The Alton and Southern, I have both units. I even have a Cab Ride video on You Tube that you commented on. The A&S interchanged with the CNW in their Gateway Yard. The A&S has a 22 mile mainline that goes through Granite City to Lennox Tower Just north of Granite City.

For a better refrence, refer to the July 2001 issue of Railfan and Railroad, were Mark Mautner and Randy Allard (Both good friends of mine) have written an excellent artical on the road. The Artical can also be found on the A&S’s website, www.altonsouthern.com

Hope this helps!

Oh yeah, also check out my picture collection at http://bnsfkline.rrpicturearchives.net for som great shots

The A&S was jointly owned by the MP and SSW during the period the GP38-2 would have been used.

The big oval yard in this picture is the A&S:

There are two smaller yards on the SW side of the ALS. On is the SSW yard and the is the Gateway Western.

The ALS interchanged with the UP, BNSF, NS, SSW, CSXT, TRRA.

Not MP and SSW, but UP and SSW, the GP38-2’s came on property mid 1992

Alton & Southern was originally owned by Alcoa, who sold it to C&NW and MP in 1968. This joint ownership is the basis of the blue and yellow colors and the hybrid herald. C&NW sold its share to SSW in 1972. As a result of subsequent mergers, Alton & Southern is now a wholly owned subsidiary of UP.

what does the A&S pull… build a interlocking across your layout regular trackage then park trains across it … this is what the A&S pulls…

I came up with some ideas for the layout and put them into a video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zoUYKc_OWf0 enjoy [:)]
