I have new replacement trucks.
Since they haven’t been announced, I had to get permission from Philly to post.
Just got that permission.
These are slick. In fact, I told Philly that. Somebody was thinking and planning ahead.
There are two sets of instructions in the case. One for installing on new Shays, one for retro-fit on old.
The top plate is small, same size as the Climax. Only two screws drops the truck off.
The top plate on the trucks has a red and black wire already attached and you connect them, as per instructions, one red to one red, black to black.
Here is the only problem:
Old Shays have no consistency.
Some have all red wires, some have all black, some have red painted black, some have red front, black rear, or vice-versa.
You just have to try it.
I think if you remove the truck and rotate the plate it will reverse the connection, but I haven’t had time to check.
Comes with new mounting screws, and replacement contact springs for the new Shay.
I dragged out the old Kluge I have been saving for this occasion,
Understand these showed up just over an hour ago.
I had to put truck wires in as they were all gone, replace the broken firebox board, install the trucks, put a set of cylinders on it, and test run it, and I was done (with 6 phone calls from folks wanting to know about the Shay…) 20 mintes ago.
This conversion will probably take you 20-30 minutes max.
They are a little noisy. They need to break in a bit, but metal housings don’t muffle like plastic ones do. Others, I hear, have reported the noise diminishes rapidly with running.
Metal couplers and mounts.
Like the Heisler.
Fast, neat conversion…I haven’t checked deck height as compared to a stock old Shay yet.
Wanted to get this out.
ORDER your trucks tomorrow!
