Ok, I just placed my new HO scale MTh SD70ace on the layout and it ran fine with sound. But today the sound quit working? I am running standard DC rail power 1370 15 volt power pack as I cannot afford DCC right now. Any help would be appreciated. The lights and locomotive run fine but I did follow the manual and it did nothing? I even took it off my layout and ran it on a small track with no sound?
Hi macsd70ace,
Welcome to the forum!
Try removeing the the radiator assembly to gain access to the manual volume adjustment. It shouldn’t have changed on its own, but that’s an easy place to start. If that doesn’t doesn’t do it call the MTH service department. (410-381-2580, go to the operator and ask for the service). I had one of my two SD70’s that lost sound suddenly under DCC. The problem turned out to be a pinched wire going to the speakers.
Any idea of how to get to the speaker assembly? I guess I have to remove the body! YIKES! I have never messed with a DCC or DCS locomotive in that way before. I have had the shell off some of my Athearn locomotives before but I am a little nervous at this juncture. I had two blue line locos and just ordered two more AC6000 and a Sd-40-2. With the controller. I dont think I will be getting into the DCC controller game any time soon as it is both expensive and not in my hobby needs just yet. I try to keep in mind that its just a hobby. If I need the real deal I just walk down the street to CSX deshler main or forstoria main. hell even right down the road to the CSX docks or both CSX and NS yards here in the Toledo oh area. Thanks for the information…
