Well not really an easter egg just an “undocumented feature” AKA bug.
When clicking the link to view a posted image full size the image opens in a new tab but the entire Firefox browser window changes from maximized to an intermediate size. Closing the new tab does not restore the window. Example: http://cs.trains.com/trccs/forums/t/139091.aspx
I’m running 3.0 on XP, with a 1280x1024 monitor. Whatever the size of my original FF window, clicking clicking on the image in the thread resizes the browser window to 1024x768, regardless of the size of the original image! What’s the deal on that?
And it doesn’t matter what the restore-down size is - the window is resized to 1024x768. It doesn’t matter whether you’re opening in a new tab or a new window. Same deal.
Now that you mention it, I just noticed that I have the same problem on Vista Ultimate on the Laptop. I had been on the Forum earlier this AM on the Desktop upstairs and did not have a problem, the pictures enlarged OK, but that computer is running XP. I use Netscape Navigator on both computers. It is what I have always used and it has never given me any Heartburn since we got our first computer with it installed about 14 years ago.[swg]
I noticed that last night. I already had my browser (FF 3.0.2, IIRC…I’m not at home right now) set to “open links in new tab”, and it resized the whole browser window. Mildly annoying, but maximizing it again works just fine.
Not allowed to upgrade my employers machine [sigh] even though I am an IT “expert” LOL.
I do have ver 3.0 at home however. Just tried it with the same problem. The old site worked fine on both so the server side delivery must be different.
Edit: I always open in new tabs. New windows for forums are dumb. No difference.
Oh well, maybe someone will notice this post and make a patch.
Pictures open in a tab next to the current one for me without the window resizing. I have a plugin called Tab Mix Plus, that gives you far more flexibility in terms of customizing tab behavior. The default FF tab options are minimal.
