I live in central-Jersey and am just getting into the railfanning hobby. I’m still trying to find areas near me with significant rail traffic (freight). Can somebody help out?!
The Lehigh Line would be a good place to railfan in Central New Jersey. The line runs through Roselle Park, Edison, to Plainfield and Bound Brook. From there, the line splits and heads west to Allentown (NS) and south to Trenton (CSX). Should be upwards of 35-40 trains per day east of Bound Brook.
bound brook is a very good place to shoot. it has ample parking at the station and is a safe area to go. you can photograph from the station area and there are signals to let you know if something is coming on the lehigh line. there are also some stores for food and such nearby.also up the road is manville wich is used by both csx and ns. you loose nj transit though. i have also gone to unionvale just outside newark because it is also used by all 3 railroads. stay out of newark it is not a very safe place. if you ever want to take pictures in newark for some reason do it in the winter. the bad influences stay indoors this time of year. another place to go is mutuchen station on the corridore.it sees a lot of amtrak and njtransit. you also can get a local here every once in a wile. it is a good place to practice your photography because of all the traffic. there is another place located in little ferry called cp.5. it is right off of route46. it is where the the riverline and old susquehanna paralell each other.
If you’re interested there is a station from the Mercer and Somerset Railroad located on West Delaware Avenue just west of SR 31 in Pennington. If you turn off SR 31 you will see a red real estate office with what appears to be a red storage building; that is the station. The local Hopewell Township Library is across the street. (Pennington is a doughnut hole town within Hopewell Township).
WOW! Talk about a dormant thread that came back to life! This must be a record-setter. Eleven years!
11 years is nothing compared to the lines efforts in 1876 during the Great Frog War. Sadly, the plucky M&S lost to the National Railway. In 1879 it went bankrupt and was dismantled, a tragic fallen flag.
And it was originated by Anonymous - What a handle!
I wonder if Anonymous is still out there? And under what “nom-de-plume” he goes by now? If you’re there Mr. A, we’d love to hear from you!
If I’m not mistaken, the name “Anonymous” is substituted automatically for the original name of the poster by the forum software when that member’s name/account is deleted.
Awwwwww gee, now we’ll NEVER know…
Other forums I participate in keep the Original posters identity associated with their non-deleted threads and posts. Their idenity is visually changed so that all other posters know that persons identity is no longer on the forum in good standing. Questioning why ‘A’ is no longer in good standing is not permitted.
And yet, I wonder. Why is ‘A’ no longer on the forum in good standing?
On this forum’s system, once a member is a non-member, that former member becomes a non-entity, and all that poster’s posts are tagged as anonymous.
