Hi everyone!
I am a newbie here. I have been in the hobby for about 19 years! I started when I was about 10 or so.
Anyways, I started out in HO but I got into N scale about six months ago. I don’t have any pictures of the two previous layouts I built, but they were both BN routes.
Since I am currently living in an apartment, I decided to try something new. I wanted the largest layout for the space I have so I went N scale this time. Since I won’t be in an apartment forever and this isn’t my masterpiece layout, I decided to have a little fun.
I’m building a coffee table layout with CONRAIL diesels. My coffee table is really a sand box from Wal-Mart, but the lines work well for the lip and the depth is right. This sort of project is where you get the term “thinking outside the box” right? Well, it is a little shy of a 4x4 square, so there have been some challenges. My turns are rather tight and maybe at some points a bit unrealistic, but some concessions have had to be made in order to get the look, feel, and appearance of a small section of fictional track along the PA mountains between Altoona and Johnstown.
I have a lot of work to do still. My backdrop is no where near complete. I still need to clean up around where I drilled into the plywood sub-roadbed to get the trees in, some work along the main road along the shoulder, and all manner of other small details.
This is a great site and I’m glad to be a part of the boards!
Anyways, I’ll post some pictures soon!
