New Movie "Train Master"

I just got home from seeing the movie “Train Master”, it is a good movie ( my bias to be explained shortly[swg]) I have heard that it is not rated, but there is no doubt in my mind that it would definitely be in the “G” rating class. It is a Family movie, that could easily be mistaken for a “Disney” movie, and they did a commendable job considering they did not have any where near Disney’s financial resources. It was produced by Bransom productions.

The model rail road scenes were filmed at the club (Columbia Gorge Model Railroad Club) where I am a member, and I actually had my favorite locomotive ( the Lionel HO challenger, #3980[:-^], 2 tone grey w/silver lettering is mine) get a quick piece of film.

Without giving away the plot, it shows why kids should STAY AWAY from trains, Look, but Don’t Touch. If You are enough of a TRAIN NUT to be on this forum reading this, you will likely enjoy it, as I am sure any kids that you might take with you will as well. As in just about any movie, and even some Documentaries, you can find a few discrepancies, but I still found it an enjoyable flick any way. It was filmed largely here in Portland, OR and the North West region, so I don’t know if this was it’s opening market, or if it has played any where else, or where it will play next. Being produced by a smaller production company, watch for it at your Locally owned Theaters, rather than the mega-chains.

I enjoyed it VERY MUCH, and then when I got to the Theater, and found that it was a Sponsored Screening, and only cost me the $5.00 for a Large Popcorn (with LOTS of Butter[dinner]) and a bottle of pop (you gotta LOVE those smaller theaters) that just made a FUN movie even better.

Hi Challanger3980!!

I understand that the movie is really good, I work for trimet and I pass by the Hollywood theater everyday, so when I saw the marqee I was surprise, my wife and I were suppose to see it when the movie first came out in early June, we bought our tickets two weeks in advance they were at will call, it was going to be a great weekend, “trainmaster” friday, Grand floral Parade Saturday, workin’ on our layout on Sunday[swg]! Well two out of three aint bad( In perparing for the Parade friday we spaced the movie and did’nt think about it until the following friday[banghead]!!! We are not going to miss it this time! I hope our fellow Mrxrders freinds around the country get a chance to see it![;)]

Hi TrainsRMe1,

I didn’t realise that it had been out for that long, my work schedule has not been very conducive to me getting to the club lately, and this week was the first time that I had heard the movie had finally been released.

Now for the BAD NEWS, my understanding is that tonight’s 9:15 pm was the last showing at the Hollywood Theater, but I could be wrong, you will either have to check the Marquee, or call their movie line, I couldn’t even find a schedule listing in Wednesdays paper for the Hollywood. May be they only buy weekend ads?

Good Luck, I HOPE that You do get to see it, I had a GRRREAT TIME, and the price was right too.

Doug

Hi TrainsRMe1,

Do you know Ken Shipmann? He is a Driver for Tri-Met ( I don’t know which line though) He is a current member, and past President of our club.

Doug

[banghead] I hope that"s not true, I will check around and see what kind of info I can get, Next time your at CGMRC please tell Ken Shipman that Boyce says," hey" we work together at trimet. seeya soon Trainsrme1[swg]

He works out Merlo garage in Beaverton, and I work out of Center garage on 17th and Holgate. I uesd to work out of Merlo, that’s where I met him.[swg]

Hey Boyce,

I just called the Hollywood’s movie & event line (503) 281-4215, I didn’t hear it listed in the line up starting today, July 4th, sorry. Have You ever visited us at the CGMRC? I will say Hi, to Ken for You the next time that I see him, which isn’t very often, If my work schedule works out to make it to the club, it seems that Ken’s doesn’t, He is also a member of the Rose City Garden Modelers, so I imagine that this time of year, he is pretty busy with that group.

Doug

I Can’t picture the Tri-Met garage at 17th & Holgate, but I bet that you know just about any time that the 4449 is on the move, have You ever visited Doyle and the crew at the Brooklyn Roundhouse? Those guys are a bit like this movie’s producers, they haven’t got the financial resources that the “Big Guys” have, but they do a Spectacular job with what the do have, it says a LOT, that the UP, had the confidence in Doyle and Crew to double-head the 4449 with the 844, last year in May, and it wasn’t just a “Twice around the Block” trip either.

Doug

Yeah I try to visit your open house each November, and I tell ya it;s breath taking ever time, I love the drive in on scenic Hwy,

Just so that you’re not disappointed, November has 5 weekends this year, so DON’T show up the 1st weekend of Nov1 & 2, we will be open the last 4 weekends in November this year.

Doug

I haven’t visited the roundhouse yet, But I will soon, I have heard of the lash up of the 4449 and the 841 did they go up to Tacoma? I bet that was real fun, I would have loved to have gone on that trip! I understand that the City of Portand and Union Pacific are trying to work out a deal to build a railroad museum somewhere by OMSI, I hope that comes though, I would volunteer

Yes the 4449 & 844 double-headed to Fife, WA (North of Tacoma) and were on display for almost 2 weeks, during which time they ran 2 fund-raising excursions up to Everett, WA. The crews had a good time while doing it, the “Legends of Steam” video volume two covered the double-headed portion with vol 1 covering 844’s trip out, and vol 3 covering the 844’s trip home to Cheyenne. I didn’t get to see them double-head, but we were camped at Viento State park May 12th to see the 844 run through after staying at the Dalles, on her way to Portland.

The ORHF (Oregon Rail Heritage foundation, which is a conglomerate of groups that share the Brooklyn Roundhouse, and maintain the 4449, the SP&S 700 and the OWR&N #197) is working on deal for some land very close to OMSI. The UP had been letting the ORHF use the Brooklyn Roundhouse, FREE of CHARGE for many years now, but an expansion of inter-modal capabilities at Brooklyn yard needs the roundhouse real-estate. I have heard though that the UP is going to let them dismantle and take the roundhouse with them, I believe the turntable as well too. From my understanding, the UP has been very generous towards Doyle, and the ORHF. Volunteering for that project does sound very enjoyable and rewarding, but I have trouble making enough time as it is, I can’t squeeze anything more in right now.

Doug

Anyone have a link to this movie? I haven’t heard of it.

Here ya go… http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0995842/

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.Channel&ChannelID=221303859

Hmmm, the link was interesting to say the least. From the looks of it [;)]

  1. Several kids climb aboard a 1st generation EMD “SW-something” switcher

  2. Somehow start it up without going through the procedures. [%-)]

  3. Know enough to let the air pressure build up, then release the brake, notch the throttle and take off with it down a mainline at a good clip [:O]

  4. Totally ignore the two M.O.W crewmen waving at them frantically to stop because apparently there is some danger ahead [B)] (though the kid operating the unit did give them a couple of toots on the horn). [:o)]

O.K, I definetly want to check this out! [%-)] I just hope this isn’t one of those movies where railfans and modelers are, once again, cast as social outcasts and oddballs. [8D]

Well, it looks more believable than “Hancock”…[:-^]

So the “bad” kid’s name is Thomas? No wonder its out of control [:D]

Sounds like a good movie.
