New photos of the Tonopah and Tidewater RR

I finally took a few photos of the railroad now that some of the scenery is complete. It depicts the T&G, T&T, BG RR and LV & T between Goldfield and Rhyolite.

Very nice looking layout. It looks like the Nevada desert. Great job on the scenery. Thumbs up.

Wow! That is a great layout!

Very nice, NevinW. The Rhyolite ruins have the right look, and it’s hard not to love a timber trestle over a dry desert wash.

(The T&T is my favorite gone-before-I-was-born line. If anybody wants to talk about Crucero, I’m here.)

Do you ever host layout tours for NMRA meets, etc.?

Good work! I like it![tup]

man thats sweet,is the shelf above for lighting or a nother level ? very clean and plesant to look at ,really gives the feel of the era…J.w.

Nice indeed. I like those broken down abandoned buildings.[tup]

[:-^]

I like it. Great job of landscaping, great look to the structures, interesting and innovative design for backdrops, I might have to try something like that in one area I have.

The only downside I see is, there doesn’t look like there will be much growth there for revenue service. [(-D]

Keep up the great work and keep us all posted.

Johnboy out…for now

To describe my layout: It is a 18 inch wide shelf built around a 16 X 16 foot spare bedroom. It is built to be movable in 4 foot sections. The lighting and valance is built into each section. All of the mountains are built from foam with mine tailings for ground cover. The rock castings are resin using the Bragdon method. The turntable is a Walther’s N 135’ with a new bridge built around it. Fortunately Bachmann has done a good job with their steam locomotives based on the Ma & Pa. They were built by Baldwin in the 1905-1907 era which is the same time as the Nevada mining railroads were ordering theirs from Baldwin. Even the Bachmann 2-8-0 can be used as it turns out that the Las Vegas & Tonopah had three consolidations #30-32 that are similar to Bachmann’s model with the Vanderbilt oil tender. The MDC Pullman Palace cars are dead ringers for a number of passenger cars used in this area. The only problem as anyone who have visited the ghost town of Rhyolite can testify, the mines played out early and everyone left town by 1918. The roadbed of the LV&T became the highway between Beatty and Las Vegas. I grew up in Las Vegas about 1/2 mile from the junction of the LV&T with the UP (LA,SL&SP). - Nevin

Awsome job on your railroad, i really love the backdrop, it reminds me of when i was stationed at Fort Bliss (El Paso, TX) and we would be out in the desert training and seeing the mountains in the distance. Once again great job

Looking very good. I love the T&T. I have some paperwork from the T&T including an Annual Pass. We took a trip following the T&T from Ludlow North and wound up at Goldfield Nevada. We stopped at various ghost towns along the way. As a side note we followed the old road bed of the Nevada Southern from Goffs, California to Ivanpah, California. Along the way we ran across a small piece of rail that had a 1882 date stamped on it. I assume it was left over rail from the Sante Fe which the Nevada Southern connected with at Goffs.

That is great looking. Living out in the desert, I guess I have a soft spot for it. I do love the look of the old “ghost town”. Very nice indeed.

Great modeling Nevin, I love desert railroading, especially this area of the country, that is a great representation of Rhyolite!

Keep the pictures coming.

Nevin:

That’s some really FINE modeling! [bow] You’ve really captured the atmosphere of that area. I haven’t been in that area for some years, but just looking at your photos makes me want to take a trip down there this summer.

Fascinating area of the Nevada desert, and you’ver REALLY captured it beautifully.
