New Posters

I’ve noticed quite a few new posters in the last week. Great to see new blood getting into the hobby.

Glad to find a nice message forum for trains that sems to get some good actiity… I look around on alot of them, but most dont have much message traffic. Seems like a good bunch of guys here, learned alot already!!!

When I first joined the forum, anytime there were more than thirty members online, that was a lot. Now I often see a hundred or more. I don’t think we need to worry about “DEATH OF A HOBBY”. And it’s a good bunch people to boot![tup][:D]

Yeah, it’s a great bunch of folks here. We’re a chatty bunch, though. If you ask a question, be prepared for information overload! No one here is shy about sharing.

I’ll assume I’m in the group your talking about. Yes, it’s good to see new blood getting in the hobby. However, I usually do more reading than posting. You can gain a lot just by reading others problems/solutions/tricks/tips/how too’s. There have been several who immediately responded to an issue I had (I tried for several days to repair it before posting).

One of the many things I have learned is there is a difference between running trains and modeling trains, I never could get the two combined. But after reading the posts and articles, I think I can do it. I have also begun the transition from DC to DCC. I hate soldering, but on the last 2 conversions, I have been impressed at my own work, especially since the loco runs immediately after installing DCC. I have been doing a lot research on sound. I almost have Digitrax, SoundTraxx and QSI web sites memorized.

So, us “new posters” appreciate your experience and input. It’s actually helping some of us.

I’m still fairly new here too; even after 2+ years. This forum and the internet have taught me a ton and it now shows in my new layout. I’m here everyday even if it’s just to run through the list of new posts for anything that strikes me as interesting and I’m glad the board and all the great members are here. Keep up the great work and thank you for the instruction and inspiration.

I really enjoy how active this forum is. I just wish the Classic Trains forum had a similar activity level, but I guess that speaks to where the interests are.

I noticed a few new posters myself this morning, and what do you know, I found this thread…

Nice to know I’m not the only guy doing the PC anymore!

I’m a new poster, but I’m not new to model railroading. Alas, I haven’t done much with it in about 15 years, and picked up the January '11 issue of MR to peruse recently. It’s kind of surprising some of the changes in the hobby during my absence. Last time I did much, Athearn was strictly HO scale, aimed towards the budget-conscious buyer. I used to have a lot of fun buying an inexpensive Athearn locomotive, and taking the time to go through and add details to it. DCC was still a higher-end option back then.

The closest thing to a layout I have is an old “Timesaver” shelf layout that hasn’t seen power or rolling stock in years. If it’s still in anything close to serviceable condition, I may try to incorporate it into a larger layout when I get things cleared out to build one.
