my new athearn AC4400 has a different style coupler than my roll. stock -the exploded diagram says:“since 1998 athearn has been using bachmann E-Z mate couplers available from any hobby shop” -my question is-
since my cars are old couplers make a “conversion” car with an ez mate on one end and an old style on the other (until i eventually convert everything over)
atlas uses accumate couplers are these compatible with EZ mate? i plan on buying more new cars and loco’s so everything needs to be compatible.
By “old style” I assume you mean the old horn-hook couplers?
Yes, the half-one, half-the-other car will work. You might want to make up a few of these, just for some variety.
However, you should probably read a few of the other threads about couplers. You will note that no one ever recommends either Accumate or EZ-mate couplers. Most “original equipment” couplers are plastic, and don’t either work as well as or last as long as the “professional grade” metal couplers. The overwhelming choice is Kadee couplers, and from my own experience there is no reason to ever buy anything else. All of the HO knuckle-style couplers are compatable with each other, so you can continue to use the Accumates and EZ-mates that you already have.
Oh yes!!![#ditto][#ditto][#ditto] I am still in the process of changing over everything I have to Kadee, I had been using them on and off and found cheaper alternatives( Acumate McHenery and EZ-mate) to the original. Don’t waste your time and money, it just aint worth it!!
so i can make conv. cars with a kadee and that would be compatible with ez mate
Absolutely.
Yes, make a few of them. I’ve run on many railroads that used conversion cars. They have some issues but overall a good stop gap measure. Back then Kadee’s were relatively expensive!
great now i know all the current knuckle couplers are compatible- where can i buy kaydee’s online -i’ll make a conv. car(s) unil i have a chance to slowly switch over all my rolling stock ,thanks everyone.
