New web page up about building a quick layout

Hi all,

I have made a new web page about making a quick layout at Melton MRC here in Australia (of which I am currently President) at

http://www.xdford.digitalzones.com/quicklayoutconstruction01.html

( If you use the above link, Copy it and Paste it into your browser please as digitalzones does not like hotlinks for free accounts from other accounts and I’m not in a position at the moment to pay for one… it should then work!)

The first page is awaiting a few pictures which were taken by another member last Saturday but pages 2 and 3 (links at the bottom of Page 1) should be OK and you will get the idea of what we have done… so far.

I am not fishing for a compliment but some feedback and ideas would be appreciated. I have seen a number of MDF (read … heavy!) layouts lying on edge in sheds when walking the dog etc just even in my area and I figure that any strategy to change that situation would be good. The long term intention is to make a couple of these as test tracks for the club which with simple removable scenery laid on top but not adhered could make them visually interesting for show purposes.

Maybe others among you have done just this type of thing and you could give me a few pointers as to what you would do.

Hope you like what you see,

Regards

Trevor www.xdford.digitalzones.com for your interest

Hi all,

The first page has now been updated so you can see the project to date including the test run using Lifelike track… OK it won’t be high modelling standards as it is but it will get a few started… and it will improve in a few weeks time.

Cheers

Trevor

My NORTON has flagged that hosting site as UNSAFE

Hi there Uncbob

I am pasting in this reply from another forum I use a lot as this has come up before

Trevor

you possibly may be getting less hits on your website as it is hosted on the free digitalzones servers.

The reason i say that on this laptop i am using at the moment it has a Norton security package on it and when i click the link you provided i get a security warning with nearly 1100 threats.

I looked at the full report and the threats are on other peoples space on digitalzones and certainly not yours and im sure many people would not look at the full report and will not realise its not you site with the threats.

I tried the same link on a puter with avg security it was fine

Perhaps this Norton is overcautious it was included on the laptop when i bought it.

here is a link where the full report is i dont know if you will be able to read it because it may only be viewable by this computer perhaps someone can test that

http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=digitalzones.com

To be honest i think the norton package is unfair as its labelling your safe site as unsafe.

cheers Brian

There have been a few similar messages… my site itself is safe but not necessarily those held by the same server. The reality check is if you are visiting my site, you are not quite so likely to be visiting some of the nasties anyway… but thanks for the warning that the site still triggers Norton.

I’m a teacher and I liked digitalzones because I could get kids web sites uploaded and their policy was that the ads were not of a R rating. I wish their backup with other aspects was much better than it has proved to be!

Hi All,

The web page has been added to with another page showing us run our first trains… not much actual construction work but we need to add a road etc. My idea is to make the layout portable and have removable buildings, cars and even scenic mounds so that the scenes can be changed and even the presumed “location” could take on a North American, Australian British or European feel with changes of buildings etc… but that is to come!

Hope it and the rest of my site www.xdford.digitalzones.com is useful to some of you

HI everyone,

Yet another page showing the rocky mounds in possible positions… hope you find something useful on the above links or the parent site www.xdford.digitalzones.com

I’d suggest Natural Soil & Dirt from Scenic Express… http://www.sceneryexpress.com/prodinfo.asp?number=SE0403

It’s fine grained (much more so than Woodland Scenic’s) and it’s the right color for many applications.

I’ve used a lot of it.
