To my knowledge, there were never any NYC SDP40’s, unless that’s an old designation for one of their electrics…
I guess that means it’s a made up number.
Why would someone just make up a number?
keep asking, keep learning
“New York Central System Diesel Locomotives” book published in 1995 indicates that no SDP40’s were ever owned by NYCRR and the number 7241 was never applied to any of their diesels.
You’ve been looking at an Athearn SDP40, right?
Dougal, I am impressed. [:D]
Only a true modeler would have known that. [;)]
btw, Ebay has one for sale at $24.99 with NO bids as yet. [;)]
Any takers? [:)]
NYC never owned any 6 axle diesels as far as I know.
Not even E-units? They rostered some of those. . .
From what I can garner, NYC had the following six-axle units:
EMD E7A 4000-4035 36 units
EMD E8A 4036-4095 60 units
Alco PA2 4200-4203 4 units
