newbie here ,can this set go outside in the weather

Would like to put a railway around our pond in the backyard.Found a bachman g gauge set called the silver flyer.I can get a really good deal on the set but was wondering if this is made for outside use.Found it on the internet and the seller said it can go inside or outside would like to get another opion since i do not know and before i buy this would just like to get all the facts about outside (garden trainsets). Thanks for the help in advance

[#welcome][#welcome] tomscarpt. Great place to ask questions.

I have LGB track, as that is all the dealer carries where I shop. But all that I have read, says the bachmann track isn’t very good for permanent outdoor layouts. Also remember to take the trains in after you are done, and make sure the power supply is a safe area, out of the sun, and weather.

What part of the world are you in ?

[#ditto]the[#welcome] Turbo is right about the Bachmann track, it rusts outdoors, but so do real rails. I have no problems running my Bachmann 10 wheerers outdoors, up until my live steam shay they were my pride and joy. Good luck and have fun!!!

If its solid brass it should be ok, my advice is to avoid all other.

Hi Tom,
Go for it mate, if you’ve got as far as this forum then the bug has got you. Don’t hang around to long or he might just sell it to someone else, look out for some Aristo or LGB track whilst you are buying. Any questions? ask away, someone will have the answer/advice. Whilst you are on there see if there are any other makes being sold, again LGB or Aristo do good starter sets.
Enjoy,
Kim

Buy the set, you could use the track temporarily but dont put the track down permanently.

Instead look around and start buying track from Aristocraft or USA trains (these 2 are most cost effective) Do it slowely if you have to until you have enough to complete the loop around you pond, THEN you can permanently leave the track down all year long.

Bachmann track is designed for Xmas tree layouts, but there trains are designed for outdoor use. That Silverton Flyer was MY first large scale set also!

Thanks for the help i did buy the set and will get the better track.Next question can i leave the trainset outside overnight.I really do not want to bring it in everyday.I was planning on building a miniture shed to park the train in .Of coarse this idea is for the summer only. What do you think.thanks tom

If your shed protects from direct rainfall etc, and the track level is above any area where water can accumulate, you shouldn’t have any problems. I would take it in periodically. especially if you hear of severe weather on the way.
