Newer Forum Members

I have noticed an influx of messages recently from newer forum members.

These are not the first messages of members who joined the forum the day before posting but, rather, maybe the second or third or fourth message from a newer forum member who joined the forum within the last six months.

I find this very encouraging and rewarding for the rest of us. It indicates to me that there is an increasing interest in the forums. It is always good to add new blood to any existing enterprise and these forums are no exception.

[#welcome] to all newer forum members.

Yes, [#welcome] to all new-comers!

Hopefully we will show our best sides to these newbies-some of whom may actually be “old hats” at the “game” we call MRRing!

New blood into the old staunch members…now that would be nice.

I hope we don’t discourage them. I hope they come with lots of questions we can answer in a civilized manner for them to understand, remembering that to THEM, no answer is of greater importance-even if we have answered it dozens of times and that there is the “Search our community” feature in the right side margin!

So [#welcome] again!!!

Hi, and welcome from me as well!

As an aside, it could be that the taste of fall in the air has stimulated those MR juices in folks…

I’ve been a member of this forum for years and always found it friendly. I have seen some heated discussions, but they always seemed to be resolved in a friendly manner.I also saw the “troll attacks” and they were quickly removed. This is a good forum and they do follow the rules when topics started heading for a major derailment.

Lurking gets old after a few months. Thanks for the welcome, guys!

And a note to SOME of the new members (a very few, I hope):

When you ask someone the favor of their advice, it’s considered a good thing to say “Thank you”. And it’s even nicer to add maybe some comments about the suggestions–even reasons why they don’t work in that particular case. A recent newby managed to ask a couple of questions and…

Nothing.

I don’t HAVE to help someone out with an answer. I could be modeling instead. The next time the above person has a question, I just might be too busy to respond.

And, no, saying “thanks” in the request, or TIA, or the similar doesn’t count. One says “Thank you” AFTER receiving a gift. Not before.

Thank you, for the warm welcome. model railroading I’m fairly new at but foruming got lots of exp. there. I have questions but it’s to a list a very long list which may require it’s own thread.

Just remember, there are no dumb questions either. Many of us have been modeling for a long time, 44 years for me, and have been through the school of hard knocks many times over. In my case, I’ve dealt with everything from Marx and Gilbert to the newest BLI and MTH locomotives [and I think I’ve had all of them taken apart!]. Also, don’t be ashamed to show your pics! I think I speak for everyone here when I say that we are not here to judge, but share images, advice, compliments, and maybe a little good criticism. This is truely the world’s greatest Hobby, so keep the faith and good luck with your projects.

Trust me what I will ask is far from dumb it involves switching everything I own (N scale) that’s equipped with rapidos (85% of my stuff) to MTL couplers but which ones do I need to get so I can switch( as well as the other generic questions and some layout questions). Every other forum I’ve posted in has in some way shape or form been involved with gaming (lucasarts, battlefield, halo, etc…) but video games have lost most of its appeal to me now that I have model trains.
