I went north today to a MRR show and swap-meet in Lena, IL. Lena, IL is a small town on Highway 20, just northwest of Freeport, IL. Which is in turn a small city just west of Rockford, IL.
Anyway I had never been to this particular show before, and I found it very worthwhile. The show filled three gymnasiums in the local elementary/high school complex. They had several nice operating layouts, and a number of vendors. The event repeats tomorrow from 10 to 4 for anyone who lives in in the area.
To business; for some time I have had this nostalgic impulse replace the first train set I hade ever owned. And today I found enough vendors with the right pieces at the right prices. So here it is:
As you can see it’s in need of some TLC. I would appreciate feedback from anybody who has had experience refurbishing old AF equipment.
One particular issue involves a white powder that has accumulated on the couplers, wheelsets, and some other plastic parts. Any specific suggestions on how to remove it without damaging the parts?
