The 765 is the working class hero of steam. If you haven’t seen her run, by all means-- see her. 765 is worth the price of admission. Her excursion career has been longer than her active career on the Nickel Plate Road. Only UP 844 has a longer service life, and she was never retired.
“Steamer” was that a ship term?
It’s also a Berkshire a land based name. Not a SeaTrain!!!
“Steamer” is a clam, although ferroequinologists have used it to refer to steam locomotives.
“8100 assisting”, doubt it, maybe along for the ride (or to trip signals), and to provide some “load” for the 765.
Saw 765 at the steam fest in Owosso, Michigan, a few years back. Amazing locomotive. Also saw her rusting in 1962 at New Haven, Indiana, with 766 and 767 before she was displayed at Fort Wayne.
