Do they have a tank car? Not an expert here but I thought water was more of an issue on long steam excursion runs than coal.
They do have an auxiliary tender that carries water, and usually the limiting factor is water, but it’s also easier to fill water than coal. So I imagine that this is also most useful for trips where they have a place to fill up the water tanks in between runs.
765 was a beautiful sight last weekend! If only they would run some excursions in Illinois. Also, shorter but less expensive excursions would be more family friendly. How about several round trips in one day between Peoria and Bloomington?
Thanks for the response Mr. Resar!
Great idea!
Sorry, looks like hell. People don’t want to ride a train all day long locked in a sardine can coach with no runbys and no Dutch doors. I recently road from Bristol to Radford and even that that was a long day. The average non-railfan is bored after 25 miles or so.
Sidney, kindly forward all complaints about runbys and/or open air seating to Norfolk Southern. Their mainlines, their rules. Anybody running on their rails that doesn’t follow all rules to a T won’t be running on said rails anymore. When she’s on private rails, the runbys do happen.
