I"m modeling steam locomotives because I LOVE THE SMELL,AND SOUND OF THE LOCOMOTIVE PLEASE HELP
THANKS,[?]
Here are several articles on the Cannonball. The roadname on the show was C&FW. There are pictures of the real train at the Jametown roadhouse. If I remember right in the first episode they show of map of the layout of the C&FW railroad. The track that goes to Hooterville is just a spur line that was cut off from the main line (missing bridge). Check this link out.

rlbeetle… Thanks for the link. As a regular viewer of Petticoat Junction, The Beverly Hillbillies and Green Acres, I thoroughly enjoyed the articles.
The prototype was the Sierra RR, which had its main shops at Jamestown, CA. That complex is now a California State Park.
Sierra locomotives were popular HO brass items back in the Pacific Fast Mail era.
It would be a fun railroad to model.

that was all great but do you know if there are any books with the track plans
This link should give you the info you’re looking for, Mike http://www.sierrarailroad.com/
MR Nut,
I would be surprised if there were any published plans for the Petticoat Junction track plan since the railroad was TV fiction. Not amazed but surprised. Keep searching the WWW.
