In reserching railroad in Kansas City in the early 1960s it appears that on a map i have that Norfolk and Western railroad did get its motive power and freights in Kansas City
On the line and territory served by the NW map this railroad did not seem to get to KC so my quesrtion is did the Norfolk and Western railroad get to Kansas City on some other reailroad trackage rights ?
I dont know how old the map is but i think is somwere from the 1960s Does this mean that one could find NW motive power since 1964- 65 in Kansas City ?
Correct, before 1964 it would be Wabash power in KC and after 1964 there would be some N&W power until all the Wabash power was repainted.
The Wabash/N&W ran east to Camden, then over the ATSF to Carrolton, then east to Moberly and Hannibal into Illinois, then due east Springfield, Decatur and Danville.
The Norfolk and Western actually gained control of many Mid-western railroads around that time. The Wabash,(in this area) was originally the North Missouri Railroad making way to Kansas City around 1868, and in 1872, The St. Louis,Kansas City and Northern Railroad westward to Council Bluffs in 1879.The Wabash also operated a passenger train,City of Kansas City. The Wabash Yard in Kansas City was “North Kansas City Yard”.The N&W would have gained Railroad into KC- via- Wabash property.I looked this up in some old books about the Wabash.Dave
