John:C&O formed the Chessie System with B&O and WM, and later this was merged into CSX.
As a side note of interest none of the Chessie roads was merged.The mergers took place under CSX and the last Chessie road to be merged into CSX was the C&O.

In 1964 the NKP was merged but the Wabash leased. The Wabash finally lost its status as a “paper RR” when it was merged years later in the Norfolk Southern era.
