Norfolk Southern HAZMAT derailment in Hershey, PA area

I hope this isn’t a repost, I didn’t see anything posted yet and there doesn’t even appear to be anything in the Trains NewsWire. Several cars carrying hazardous materials from a NS train derailed in Herhey, PA yesterday. They’re saying nothing was released but they’ve evacuated some homes and shut down Hershey’s Zoo. This is NOT the same derailment posted about in the fish-kill thread. Here are some news articles on it:

OMG, are the chocoholics going to go through withdrawl or is the plant safe? [:O]

Oh my it says in one of the articles that the derailment happened near the Chocolate factory. I am wondering is this the line that runs next to Hershey Park, over in the area were the ride Batman would be??? I remember when I was on that coster last I got a really good view of the NS mainline.

Well, since there were some cars punctured, I’m guessing that the park might be closed for a while then?? That would be a shame, due to the fact that this is about the time that, Hershey Park, makes all of it’s money from tourists out of state.

Another reason I better stick to Newman’s Own chocolate bars for the time being…

This is the Reading main line that goes past the chocolate factory, Hersheypark, and the zoo.

Park is open, zoo is closed. They think it will be cleaned up by tomorrow, and the few residents that have been evacuated will be allowe to go home.

The biggest thrat was the chlorine, and that isn’t leaking at the time.

Here is an updated article on the derailment:

By the way, you can listen to NS’s Harrisburg Line at Reading and Harrisburg on www.railroadradio.net. May hear some interesting things today.

Good. All’s well that ends well based on the success with that tank car.

They may have closed the zoo because there is a bridge connecting it with Hersheypark and might really be the only access point.

I think that my memories is shaky because it is like 30 years since I last went. I do remember watching the rivets shake on the Super Dooper Looper and riding the thing.

I was out that way last weekend, supposedly there was a hazardous derailment on the Buffalo line, too.

Zoo was closed since it fell within the primary evacuation zone.

The zoo is just east of Hersheypark, and just west of the derailment.

Chlrone car has been uprighted, and the evacuated residents will be allowed home about 2pm today.
